Let's go to Pokljuka

Certainly a very special highlight for athletes and visitors will be the mass start race on Sunday.

Here 30 athletes will be sent at the same time into the race. The direct duel from the beginning. Woman against woman, man against man. Only the best 25 athletes of the current season and the five most successful ladies and gentlemen of the weekend may start.

The two German Daniel Böhm and Erik Lesser need successful races in order to qualify for the mass start in Pokljuka.

But where exactly is Pokljuka? Not far from the Austrian border is the Slovenian village Bled. From there it goes about 15 km on a winding road in the Pokljuka plateau, where the biathlon stadium is located in the heart of Triglav National Park. In the Julian Alps at an altitude of about 1300 m although there is usually snow, but some athletes do not like the high altitude. Some athletes can not quite as good handle it.

It will be interesting who is ahead this weekend. A particularly tight battle deliver the ladies. Five different winners in five individual races, which promises excitement.

Feels like it is meant that the matter is clear in the men’s races. The winner will be called Martin Fourcade. But far from it. The air is thin for Fourcade and the other guys come dangerously close to him. Especially Simon Schempp knows how it feels to win.

Even the local hero Jakov Fak surely want to attack before the Christmas break starts. He has not yet found his normal power in the current season. But with the home crowd behind him, he could again mobilize forces.

After Pokjluka the most athletes take in a short winter break. STOPP! There was something else. On 28/12 many of the best athletes start at the World Team Challenge in Schalke. Starters created mixed duos and they compete then in a breathtaking setting in the Veltins Arena for great prizes. With the new route of this race it will be more and more at a sporting highlight.

It can start in Pokljuka, we are already in the starting boxes.
